(, ) An obscure session that Chet recorded in the mid 60's with a rhythm section from Detroit that includes the Kirk Lightsey, Herman Wright, and Roy Brooks – and that features some firey playing by George Coleman on tenor. Tracks include 'Rearin' Back', 'Grade A Gravy', and 'Fine & Dandy'.
Much more soulful than some of Chet's other LPs – and a record that was oddly licensed both to Prestige and Roulette! © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc. (Blue trident label stereo pressing with Van Gelder stamp. Cover looks great!).
We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages. Used Vinyl Grades Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a '+' or '-') the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single.
I have a lot of Chet Baker on CD. I used to be a huge fan, and I still like him today.

A friend of mine even made a very special wedding gift for me with some of his rare recordings for various radio stations. Hans (J.A.W.) already made a lot of good recommendations for his earlier recordings. I always also really like his later output with various trio formats, usually guitar, bass and trumpet or piano, bass & trumpet.

He recorded for various labels such as Criss Cross, Steeplechase and other independant labels. Somehow, the sound of the mellow trumpet goes well with Jazz guitar and bass in a trio setting. If you can find these CD's today still, 'Chet's Choice' would be a good place to start to discover this side of Chet Baker. Chet's Choice: Candy (trio with piano & bass): I always also enjoyed one of his last concerts for German radio, which has first been released on two individual CD's and are now available on a 2-disc set. He plays with the NDR big band, and his playing and singing is so fragile on these recordings, very personal and intimate. Love these recordings as well: Then there is a duo recording together with Paul Bley on piano, called 'Diana'.
I always enjoyed that one also: I just put on 'Chet's Choice' due to this thread, haven't heard it in many years. What great music, love the sound without a drummer. The music really swings and is nicely recorded, and I rally like Philip Catherine's guitar sound. For later Chet albums, I suggest to start with that one to see how you like this style.
